Money problems are often a symptom of something bigger. Beyond the obvious financial reasons, there's often an emotional component that's causing you to not keep or grow your money. Here are some common emotions behind money problems:
Emotion #1: Fear of the future.
Fear is the most common emotion behind our money problems.
Fear of the unknown, fear of failure, and fear of not being able to provide for yourself or your family are all very real things. And when you add them together with any other emotional baggage (like guilt) that you may have around money, it can be hard to see a way out of your situation.
Even if you can see patterns and behaviors you have to see something else modeled to see and feel into a new perspective.
Emotion #2: Scarcity.
The second emotion that can cause money problems is a lack of control over your money life. This is a common problem, and there are many reasons for it. One reason is that many people don't have enough financial education to make good decisions about their money. They may also feel overwhelmed with all the choices they have when it comes to managing their personal finances or making investment decisions.
The truth is feelings aren't facts and just because it's a crisis in your brain doesn't mean its your reality. Get curious, is there any truth to what I am feeling?
Emotion #3: Self worth, lack of confidence.
The third emotion is when we don't feel worthy or good about ourselves so we shop, smoke, drink, anything to make us feel better and keep us away from emotional pain. The goal is to move from doing things that feel good but aren't good for you to building habits that might not feel good but are good for us.
Emotion #4: Trauma from illness, loss, old trauma, divorce, inflation...
The fourth emotion is trauma, especially when it comes to illness and loss. We've all been through tough times and there is nothing wrong with feeling sad or angry about them, but sometimes we get stuck in those feelings and don't move on. The goal is to get curious about what's happening inside of you so that you can make better choices for yourself instead of falling back into old patterns.
Identifying your emotional issues can be the first step toward mastering them.
Identifying your emotional issues can be the first step toward mastering them. If you don't know what they are, you can't fix them.
